The Water Authority Board and Staff welcome you to our homepage! We hope that
you find your visit to be enjoyable and informative.
For several years now we have been inviting every group we have come in contact
with to come to the water treatment plant for a tour. The purpose is to disseminate
as much information as possible throughout the community concerning the municipal
drinking water. We hold an open house every May during Drinking Water Week,
regularly see the County Elementary Schools bring classes here, and we are visited
numerous times during the year by home-school groups and VA Tech students. We even
had a local TV morning news program here once!
The recent popularity of homepages has opened up a new dimension regarding ways to
communicate with interested individuals. Without having to drag people into the
water plant we can efficiently address consumer awareness and student research, as
well as disseminate information on drinking water to the general public.
It may surprise you to hear that our main goal is protection of public health!
Sure, we try to provide the consumer with an adequate quantity of the best quality
water attainable, but the true goal as we see it is public health protection. As
you will learn from this homepage, we do that by employing highly-trained
professionals to operate well maintained and up-to-date facilities. Of course it
all begins with an excellent source of high quality water-- the New River.
It should already be obvious that this is a proactive organization. We would like
to have any information you might want, already available, before you even ask.
That brings up another subject.
Have you ever heard the saying, "too much information can be a bad thing?" I don't
believe it. I do admit, however, that more information does make us more exposed.
The only true danger is that someone or some organization may take a small amount
of technical information and twist it to sound like there is a problem when there
really isn't. But anymore, that's a problem the general public has to deal with
every day. When was the last time you heard of another new study that found a risk
to your health or safety? I'll bet it wasn't long ago. This organization would
prefer to provide as much information up front as possible, and deal with questions
as they come up.
We hope you enjoy your visit. The page will be updated regularly , additional
information added, and new links provided. Come back again. And we would sincerely
appreciate your using the feedback form if you have the time to tell us you were
here and enjoyed your visit, make a suggestion, or pose a question you would like
answered.
Thanks, and drink plenty of water!
